Deep Energy Retrofit
An existing high ranch home located on an inlet connected to the Great South Bay.
The client was interested in taking better advantage of the views and providing a connection of the interiors with the exterior landscape.
The irregular shaped side yard plantings and the weathered rustic pergola created points of interest and dimension to a very rigid property.
The interior spaces were reversed from the original plan, taking the public spaces that were in the front and relocating them to the rear.
The master bedroom, great room and kitchen/dining now face the Great South Bay view. A full deck that extends the entire length of the back allow the interiors to expand to the exterior.
The lower level den opens to the patio through a large expanse of French doors.
Reduction in energy demand was addressed by adding an additional layer of insulation to the walls and roof, providing high performance doors and windows, and by lighting the home with LED lamps.
